Set up in the period of petroleum price booming and global warming, Lijun Plant Resource Institute make its efforts to explore the possibility of plant CO2 mitigation, microalgal oil yield and wood plant biofuel production. Researches also include microalgal waste water treatment, biological pesticides, orchid hybrid and genetic breeding.
As a single cell organism, microalgae fix CO2 more efficiently than other plants. Easy manipulation and the high ability of dissolving and utilizing the organic and inorganic substance in waste water make it possible to build a multifunctional bioreactor which can use CO2 as carbon resources to produce algal fuel and simultaneously to clean N, P and organic wastes from water.
In summer,2008, when we were working on our multifunctional bioreactor, many high school students were taking part in university entrance examination and musical competition. High pressure and hot weather made their face full of pimples. It was very annoying especially for those girls who went to dress beautifully to participate piano competition show. The parents asked us why not to try the microalgae to clean human face since it works so well in waste water treatment. It was a risky speculation!

Jatropha curcas has been documented as a traditional medicinal plant in Africa, India, and southern Asia for thousand years. And the seeds, leaves, and oil are used as wound disinfectant and as a treatment for rheumatism, skin diseases, and other ailments. Jatropha seeds contain more than 30% oil which was used traditionally as cooking、 lighting or generating electric power.
